HOT (DOG) FUN IN THE SUMMER TIME!!!

Hi!
Zeke (aka Zumba) is doing great, and he is a riot (typical Australian Cattle Dog).  He went to the beach this weekend for the first time and played ball for almost 6 hours.  He’s great at learning commands and is in ball heaven – last I counted there were over 100 tennis balls here.  He also helps find them when it’s time to pick them up..now we need to teach him to pick them up!

Anyway, here is the video of one of his great moments of fun...the end (sorry it’s a bit long) is hysterical and I have no doubt he will someday learn to turn the hose on…after all he DOES open cupboards...
Thanks again! - Jodi

ADOPTION SUCCESS STORIES

Dear HAWS:  We adopted Simon (f.k.a. "Clooney") in August of 2008.  We absolutely LOVE him.  He is equal parts sassy and lover.  He thinks he is a dog!  He fetches and plays tag.  He sleeps on our pillows with us at night.  We can't imagine being without him.  Thanks for what you do! - Steve & Jill Krey

Hi HAWS!
Just wanted to give you an update on Josie, the American Bulldog that my husband and I adopted from HAWS last May.  She is doing well.  She passed her CGC test in December.  She is also going to be in a local TV commercial for Wisconsin Vision with Danny Gokey from American Idol.  The commercial is to start airing in May.  I’ll let you know once we hear of a debut date for the commercial. - Natalie Pender

TRIBUTES

In 1996, I adopted a female Doberman Shepherd mix named "Dempsy" - who had that name as she had been thrown away, in a dumpster at Brookfield Square.  We had her for 13.75 years of wonderfulness, love, devotion, and craziness, and lots of adventures full of fun.  She gently went to Heaven yesterday at 11:45 A.M., and I just wanted to thank you for keeping her long enough for us to adopt her and for the joy of living with her for all these years.  She was one of a kind and loved so much. She had been returned 3 times by people who adopted her and didn't "get" her, but we "got" her, and have loved her to distration.  Many thanks to all who waited for Daisy (her re-name ) to find us.  - Thankfully, Florence and David Hanson

From the Schull family:  "Maverick, you have been gone for a year now but will never be gone from our hearts. We think of you and miss you everyday. Your big brown eyes and unconditional love will never be forgotten. We thought we rescued you but I know you rescued us. Until we meet again my friend . Love, your family"

From the Coats family:  "I am not sure of the exact date of when we adopted our baby, Thunder, but it should be pretty close.  My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I walked into HAWS and saw two black lab/rottweiler puppies.  We asked to see the female.  They put us in a room with the puppy and my wife picked her up and the puppy put her head on my wife's shoulder as to give her a hug.  No words needed to be spoken; I said I will let them know we would like to adopt her.  After filling out the paperwork and waiting a couple of days we came to pick her up.  We had no idea what to name her, but as we approached pick-up time a storm came through so we decided to name her Thunder.  That was almost 13 years ago.  On 6/10/10 we lost the best dog either of us has ever had.  She was and still is considered a family member and is missed dearly.  The heart aches quite a bit still, however some day in the future we will be looking for another dog and he/she will come from a Humane Society.  Words cannot explain the love and great times Thunder gave us and we have HAWS to thank for that."
